We made an impromptu Rock Museum on our front lawn. The kids collected their favorite rocks. Then we got thick white fingerprinting paper, stapled it to cardboard from old boxes, and those were the displays.
The kids gave each rock a name.
Then they had to come up with details and stories.
What is it made out of?
How old is it?
Where did it come from?
Why should people care?
Together we painted the names and displays, as well as the place the rock should be in case it fell off or got pushed away in all the excitement.
At night, we have to take the rock museum back in so it doesn’t get soggy. Then back in action the next day!
